Public Holidays by Country

This tool lists the public holidays for a country and year, with the date and weekday of each one. Pick a country, and a region if you like, and the list appears. For the United States in 2026 it shows 11 federal holidays plus 1 substitute day off.

The holidays are worked out in your browser by date-holidays, an open source library that covers 207 countries and more than 300 states, provinces and regions. Nothing is sent over the network. By default you see public holidays, the days most people get off. Switch on the extra view to add bank holidays, optional days, school holidays and observances such as Mother's Day. Pick a region, such as California or Scotland, to add its own holidays. Those carry the region's name.

When a holiday falls on a weekend, many countries give a substitute day off on a nearby weekday. Both days are listed, and the replacement is tagged Substitute day. US Independence Day 2026 is a Saturday, so Friday, July 3 is the day off. Some holidays last several days, such as Eid al-Fitr in the United Arab Emirates. A few start at midday, like Christmas Eve from 14:00 in Germany. The list shows the span or the start time.

The rules come from volunteers and Wikipedia and are shared under the CC BY-SA 3.0 license. They cover regular holidays well but can miss one-off days, such as an extra holiday for a royal event. Holidays set by the moon, like Eid, are calculated and may differ by a day from the official date. Coverage is uneven too: for India, only six national holidays are included. Check the official government calendar for payroll or legal deadlines.
